about

The cost of living crisis is now starting to take an icy grip on the UK at the end of 2022. It’s what inspired this track which features the Gaslight’s long term live singer Fey Pink and Jon Sevink (fiddle), Jeremy Cunningham (bass) and Dan Donnelly (guitars) from The Levellers, and is produced by Professor Purblind. Lyrics are by Fey Pink and are well informed and from the heart as Fey has worked with Exeter’s homeless community for a number of years now. With the winter weather taking a distinctly chilly hold and many people struggling to pay their heating bills let alone find enough money to get food on the table, it was decided over Xmas 2022 that all proceeds should go towards helping raising money for those most in need. Fey has worked with St. Petrock’s, a charity for homeless and vulnerably housed people that’s been going for 25 years, and suggested donating the money to them. They are struggling to find enough funds and we were more than happy to be able to support them in our own small way.

For more info on St. Petrock's please visit stpetrocks.org.uk

The donations have now finished. You can still purchase the track at the lower price of £1, which will help us recoup the costs of making the tune.

Many thanks to Jeremy, Jon and Dan from The Levellers for their support.

Guilty as Charged

Lyrics by Fey Pink

Raz … Dwa .. Trzy … Cztery

Verse 1: A crisis is coming
Limbo under Poverty
Counting the Pennies
Can you feel the Squeeze?

Chorus: Are you gonna be Warm?
Are you gonna be Fed?
Are you gonna be Homeless?
Destituted?

Verse 2: Can I put the heating on?
Can I feed my kids?
Just put another jumper on
And take your Meds

Verse 3: Persistent Inflation
Father of Hypocrisy
Counting the pennies
As we feel the squeeze
A crisis is coming
Limbo under Poverty
Our purse-belts are tightened
Crushing our Communities

Chorus:

Verse 4: Don’t open the door
To the Debt Collector
The wolf is at the gate
Who’s gonna protect ya?

Verse 5: I put it to you
Honorable Member of the House
Citizen to Citizen
That you have - Knowingly -
Been party to the absolute dismantlement
of the Welfare State.
You have sadistically destroyed
ESSENTIAL SUPPORT SERVICES
For societies most Vulnerable.
You have made it IMPOSSIBLE
For Everyday People
To survive on the Minimum Wage
YOU Enforce.
You care only for
PROFIT
APPEARANCE
And the CORRUPT ELITE
How - Honorable Member of the House -
Do you plead?

“GUILTY AS CHARGED”

Chorus:

Verse 4:

Chorus x 2

about

The Gaslight Troubadours UK

The Gaslight Troubadours cite their influences as "scratchy old cylinder recordings, risqué Music Hall, 221b Baker Street, old radio show thrillers and Hammer Horror". Although they've been described as "the dark, more twisted cousin of Public Service Broadcasting” their closest musical bedfellows are Mo’ Wax and the likes of DJ Shadow. ... more
